Pierre Aumonier

It is with great sadness that we record the sudden and unexpected death of Pierre Aumonier on 30th August 2009. Pierre was Chief Administrator of NFO for the last 20 years and he was involved in all aspects of the company on a full time and regular basis.

His death comes as a tremendous blow to the company from which we will endeavour to recover.

Pierre was born in Wallasey Cheshire on the 9th July 1936, and was educated at Kingsmead Preparatory School, and subsequently at Malvern College.

In 1960 he decided to make a full time career in the theatre and joined the Library Theatre in Manchester and subsequently the Bristol Old Vic Company. He was later in the West End with a production of War and Peace and also appeared in many TV shows.

In 1991 Pierre joined Northampton Festival Opera as Fund-Raiser, and subsequently became Business Manager. His contacts in the world of opera enabled the Company to become Pro-Am, taking productions as far apart as Yorkshire and Devon, although concentrating on the Midlands, and becoming a respected Opera Company throughout the country. His skills in negotiation were first class dealing with Artists, Conductors, Directors, Technical Staff and also Arts funding authorities and local authorities to achieve the best possible results for the Company. In the last few years he became General Administrator.

By his death, we have all lost a true friend, one who flourished in the world of opera, and who gave so much for the benefit of Northampton Festival Opera, his Company, for which he was so totally committed. He has left an enduring legacy of happy memories and of musical events and productions, which by his organising genius he helped to create.

He will be so sadly missed.
